Description

George P. Menkel was a budding artist in the 1930s with a long appreciation of aircraft, sports and military subjects. From Maryland, he worked as an artist for Martin Aircraft as well as the creator of a number of watercolors of Baltimore Colts football action.
This color sketch shows the roots of his talent and is a great early piece for anyone who is a fan of his later work.
The sketch was actually found behind the photograph of the jaunty pilot of the biplane. It is apparent that the sketch is of this individual, who unfortunately is unidentified. The photograph is part of this listing and will be included.
Menkel died in 1993.
