Vintage Homebrew Aviation Radio, Bendix Components, Circa 1960s?

I picked this mystery radio up at the Goodwill Clearance Center. There is not any positive identification on it except for an abundance of Bendix radio components. I asked several
knowledgeable
radio people and got several opinions. Some said it may have been a prototype but a majority felt it to be a first rate homebrew unit. I asked the experts at the Baltimore Museum of Industry and all their Bendix Radio retirees figured it to be a unit that has been modified
several times. It has four Bendix low B+ car radio tubes (12AD6, 12BL6, 12EK6, 12FM6) used in the late 50s to early 60s, one Bendix 2N1227 transistor, a UTC A12 transformer, a couple of Bendix transformers (N2090849-1), five identical Sprague caps (four hooked up), a DB15- pin power connector and a tiny International brand db meter on the front. Note the small toggle switch on the lower left front and the dual male fixed wing aviation plugs.
I powered it up on a 12-volt 6 amp battery charger, and one set of red/black wires on pins 3 and 9 lit up the twin dial lamps. The other set of red/black on pins 8 and 12 powered up the vacuum tubes. I hooked up what I think is the antenna, plugged in some old school Koss Pro4/AA cans and got nothing.
